K2 Sandwich Membrane — Purity and Precision of Sound

The diaphragm is at the heart of every loudspeaker, and Focal's engineers have spent decades perfecting it. In 1986, Focal unveiled their aramid fibre sandwich membrane — recognisable by its unique yellow colour — and it has been continuously refined ever since. Today's K2 cone consists of an ultra-light foam core sandwiched between a layer of aramid fibre and a layer of glass fibre, combining the three key qualities of a speaker membrane: rigidity, lightness, and damping. The result is precise, dynamic, and uncoloured sound reproduction.

TMD Suspension — Stabilised Surround, Eliminates Vibrations

Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology adds finely positioned toroidal weights to the surround to stabilise cone movement and achieve greater sonic neutrality. This innovation specifically addresses erratic surround behaviour between 1kHz and 2kHz, enhancing midrange performance and reducing distortion at critical listening frequencies.

Optimised Filters — A High-Performance Soundstage

Every component in a Focal K2 Power crossover is specifically selected and optimised for the series. The crossover manages heat dissipation, channel separation, and soundstage performance with reliability and precision, ensuring each driver operates at its best within its designed frequency range.
