K2 Sandwich Membrane — Purity and Precision of Sound

The diaphragm is the key component of a loudspeaker and sits at the heart of Focal's acoustic engineers' research. Shape and materials are essential for high-fidelity reproduction. In 1986, Focal's teams unveiled an aramid fibre sandwich membrane, recognisable by its unique yellow colour. It has been extensively renewed over the years while retaining the characteristics that made it such a success. Today, it consists of an ultra-light foam core sandwiched between a layer of aramid fibre and a layer of glass fibre — combining the three key factors of a loudspeaker membrane: rigidity, lightness, and damping, for a precise, dynamic, and uncoloured sound.

TMD Suspension — Stabilised Surround, Eliminates Vibrations

Focal's engineers also innovate in all the components that make up their loudspeakers, including the surround that connects the diaphragm to the frame. Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology with harmonic damping consists of the addition of finely positioned toroidal weights to stabilise the surround for even greater sonic neutrality. This technology enhances the midrange and addresses the erratic behaviour of the surround between 1 kHz and 2 kHz.

The SUB 30 KXE handles 800W RMS nominal power with a maximum of 1600 watts.

It covers 25 Hz to 500 Hz (+/- 3dB), delivering deep sub-bass alongside extended low-frequency performance.

The SUB 30 KXE has a sensitivity of 86.5 dB.

The K2 cone is an ultra-light foam core sandwiched between aramid fibre and glass fibre layers, combining rigidity, lightness, and damping for precise, dynamic, and uncoloured sound.

It uses a high-efficiency ferrite motor with coil ventilation for sustained high SPL output and improved thermal management.
