Everything you need to know about the product

Introducing the all-new Australian-made 406MHz GPS Personal Locator Beacon from GME — the MT610G. This is GME's most compact and lightweight PLB design ever, complementing their market-leading range of emergency beacon products.

GME MT610G PLB Personal Locator Beacon

The MT610G PLB offers an impressive 7-year battery life and a 6-year warranty. Featuring a Non-Hazmat battery pack, the MT610G is approved for easy transport without dangerous goods restrictions. It has been designed, engineered, and manufactured in Australia to provide outdoor adventurers and lone workers with a GPS PLB solution that is compact, easy to use, and affordable.

Despite its compact dimensions, the MT610G does not compromise on safety features. It includes an integrated 72-channel GPS receiver with zero warm-up time, high-intensity LEDs for visual signalling, IP68 ingress protection (fully waterproof and dustproof), and an inherently buoyant design so it will float if dropped in water. The MT610G also features a 121.5MHz homing transmitter, which allows search-and-rescue teams to pinpoint your location quickly once they are in the vicinity.

The MT610G is designed to meet and exceed the latest international standards and is Cospas-Sarsat Class 2 certified. GME is the only Australian manufacturer of PLB emergency beacons and has spent over 30 years designing, engineering, and manufacturing EPIRBs and PLBs. In that time, GME beacons have been used to save hundreds of lives around the world.

The MT610G is ideal for bushwalkers, 4WDers, remote workers, and aviators who need reliable personal emergency communication in Australia's most isolated environments. A Specification Sheet and Instruction Manual are available for download from GME.

Everything you need to know

A deep dive into our industry-leading technology and high-performance standards.

What is a PLB and when should I use it?

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) is a personal emergency device that transmits a distress signal on 406MHz to the international Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, alerting rescue authorities to your location. Activate it when your life is at risk and you cannot self-rescue — it is intended for genuine life-threatening emergencies only.

How long does the battery last?

The MT610G has a 7-year standby battery life. It also carries a 6-year manufacturer's warranty.

Can I take the MT610G on an aeroplane?

The Non-Hazmat battery pack means the MT610G does not fall under standard dangerous goods restrictions, simplifying air travel. Always check with your airline and relevant aviation authorities for current regulations.

Does the MT610G need to be registered?

Yes — all PLBs in Australia must be registered with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). Registration is free and ensures rescuers can contact your nominated emergency contacts when the beacon is activated.

Is the MT610G waterproof?

Yes. It carries an IP68 ingress protection rating and features an inherently buoyant design, so it will float if dropped in water.

Who is the MT610G best suited to?

The MT610G is designed for bushwalkers, 4WDers, remote workers, and aviators — anyone venturing into areas where emergency services may not be quickly accessible.

How does the GPS improve rescue response?

The integrated 72-channel GPS receiver with zero warm-up time means your precise coordinates are transmitted immediately on activation, significantly reducing search times compared to beacons without GPS.
